This tiny zoo in Alamogordo has a quaint charm unlike any other, and is full of history as the oldest zoo in the Southwest. This inexpensive activity is perfect for any day, and this little zoo inside a beautiful park offers an atmosphere that will have you wanting to visit your furry friends again and again.
Welcome to Alameda Park Zoo in Alamogordo!
Not only is this park zoo full of charm, it's the oldest in the Southwest. Alameda Park Zoo was founded in 1898 and was included in the original plan for Alameda Park.
This beautiful space is full of friendly animals and staff workers. This tiny zoo is a fun way to spend an afternoon, and is inexpensive as admission is only $2.50 for adults and $1.50 for kids and seniors.
This little zoo is one of only three AZA-accredited zoos in New Mexico, and they're dedicated to helping species on the verge of extinction.
Sometimes smaller is better, and at this tiny zoo that's the case. Despite being small, Alameda Park Zoo has a wide assortment of animals to learn about, and some you can even pet.
Alameda Park Zoo also participates in the Species Survival Plan for the Mexican wolf. This zoo has two of these gray wolves.
Another awesome initiative that Alameda Park Zoo takes on is that the zoo will take in injured birds and help them heal so they can be released back into the wild.
This quaint, inexpensive zoo is the perfect way to spend a day. Don't forget to stop by the gift shop on the way out, where you can also purchase a membership so you can visit again and again.
