For star-gazers, one of the best times of the year is upon us! The Perseid Meteor shower will make its annual appearance next week and we're already making our plans for viewing it. While the spectacle takes place throughout the month, it's expected to be in peak form from August 11th through the 13th. And, New Hampshire is lucky enough to have a front-row seat. This viewing event is a great way to get up-close and personal with this incredible event.
The Perseid Meteor Shower is one of the most beloved events among those who love the night sky. Each year, the Perseids dance across the summer night sky and this year is looking to be just as fantastic as all the rest!
Experts say that the highest number of meteors should fly by in the early morning of August 11, 12, and 13. But, this year we'll have an especially bright moon which means many of the meteors may be hard to see in the morning. Don't fret, though.
A great view of the Perseids will exist the night of August 12 into the early morning of August 13. Those who look up towards to the sky during this time are expected to have a great view with the maximum number of meteors.
New Hampshirites are lucky because they have the chance to see the meteors in some of the most beautiful places in America.
We've been told that the Baxter Woods is ideal. In fact, this is where last years official Appalachian Mountain Club's viewing event took place.
Experts anticipate this to be a great year for the stars and we're just as excited. The most ideal viewing conditions are when it's dark out, so when choosing a place try to make sure there's no artificial light. This means avoiding large cities. Head to the smaller towns or even better try camping at a high elevation.
The AMC Highland Center is dedicated to sharing nature with the public and they often hold events dedicated to the Perseid Meteor Shower. You can learn more about it here. You can reach them on 603-278-4453.
