Take This Epic Trip Up New England’s Tallest Peak This Winter
Mt. Washington is deservedly famous for its crazy weather conditions and as an epic hiking destination. Of course, many of us have also driven up the Mt. Washington Auto Road in the summer months in our cars, as well – but most don't know that when the road closes to car traffic you can still make your way up the mountain, on a ride more epic than any you've ever taken.
Driving on four tracks instead of wheels, the Mt. Washington SnowCoaches are specially designed to handle the tough, snowy conditions of the Northeast's highest peak.
The ride takes you two-thirds of the way up the mountain (about 4.5 miles). It's about 1.5 hours round trip. On the way, you'll see some extraordinary views.
Of course, there's snow as far as the eye can see - and if it gets windy, it can really blow around up here!
When you get to the highest point of the drive, you can get out, walk around for a few minutes, and admire the views. Don't forget to bring your camera!
Of course, you can also use that time to have a little fun in the snow.
There are also several special sunrise SnowCoach tours offered each winter – and this is a truly extraordinary opportunity to see the mountains lit up by the rising sun.
Tickets start at $49 per adult, but there are special 2 for 1 deals and other promotions to check out. For more details and to reserve your trip, visit the Mt. Washington Auto Road website.
