The Peverly Pond Loop Is An Easy And Beautiful Fall Hike In New Hampshire
The Peverly Pond Loop in New Hampshire offers an easy, accessible hike with beautiful views and a well-maintained boardwalk.
We love spending time outdoors in New Hampshire. But we don't love feeling like only large, uphill hikes will make us "hikers." We're always on the lookout for the other routes. The ones that provide beautiful views, but feel simple. We're not trying to be outdoor heroes and as long as the views are nice, the air is crisp and the friends are kind we're happy!
The Peverly Pond Loop trail is one of our local favorites!
One of the easiest types of hikes you can do is a loop. They start and end in the same place which makes for a hike that doesn't require much thought while you're doing it.
Even better is when that loop is a well-maintained boardwalk trail meandering through the forest.
That's what you'll find at the Peverly Pond Loop in the Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Newington. And it's completely wheelchair and stroller accessible.
To find it, head to Arboretum Drive West. Drive about 1.8 miles to find the entrance to the refuge. The parking area is just past the entrance, on the left. The back of the parking area is where the trail begins.
You'll first find yourself in a forested area. This time of year the fall foliage looks beautiful!
After coming through the forest the trail follows Upper Peverly Pond.
Near here is a nice observation area to take a break and have a snack while looking at your surroundings.
Eventually the trail veers left leading to a stream a number of vernal pools.
Then, before you know it, you're back at the parking lot. This is a great trail to take if you're short on time or simply just need a quick break to clear your head. The boardwalk makes is great for little feet or those who feel a bit unsteady on trails with dirt and rock.
The Peverly Pond Loop is found in the Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge. It's good for many skill levels and offers a nice boardwalk for easy access. It's open from sunrise to sunset year round. Pets are not allowed and visitors should be sure to stay on the maintained paths in the park. Address: Peverly Brook Pond Trail, Newington, NH 03801.
