This Family-Friendly New Hampshire Hike Has Stunning Lake Views
Lockes Hill Trail in Gilford, New Hampshire offers a family-friendly hike with stunning views of Lake Winnipesaukee.
New Hampshire is known for its amazing hikes – but we're not all up for the Presidentials, especially if we want to bring family along. But choosing an easier hike doesn't have to mean sacrificing a sense of accomplishment and great views! There's a fabulous little trail in Gilford that'll give you both in spades, without requiring months of training beforehand.
Part of the Kimball Wildlife Forest, Lockes Hill Trail is a 1.8 mile loop that's perfect for the whole family, including kids and (leashed) dogs.
While there a few sections that are a little steep, the elevation gain of the trail is only 418 feet, so it is very doable for most beginner hikers, and even younger kids.
It's a scenic and gentle trail, with plenty of places to stop and catch a breather if needed.
And when you get to the top, you'll be well rewarded for your efforts!
The views of Lake Winnipesaukee are absolutely stunning, stretching for miles and miles.
Since it's a loop trail, you'll have great (and different) views on the way down, too!
You can find the Lockes Hill Trail in Kimball Wildlife Forest at 2355 Lake Shore Road in Gilford. There's a good parking lot right by the trailhead! To see a topographical map and more details about the trail, see the Alltrails page about it.
