Hobart Creek Reservoir is not necessarily a lake or a creek, but rather, it is a large reservoir near Carson City, Nevada. The best way to get to Hobart Reservoir is by hiking the Hobart Creek Reservoir Trail. It’s considered a tough trail to hike, however, one that is absolutely worth it! If you are seeking tranquility in the company of gorgeous woodland scenery backed by a chorus of native Nevada wildlife, then this remote lake location may be the perfect place for you!
To get to Hobart Creek Reservoir Trail, you’ll want to steer for Carson City, Nevada. Just off of Interstate 580, turn onto Hobart Road. You can customize your trip using

The trail is definitely a challenge as the first few miles are mostly uphill! Bring lots of water and take the time to rest and listen to your body as you make your way along the trail, also known as Country Route 270.
Make sure you come prepared as there are no facilities this far out.
Fortunately, the trail is very well maintained and there is little guesswork as to where to go. You’ll also be surrounded by stunning nature and beautiful trees.
Once the trail levels off about 2.8 miles in, look for McEwen Creek. Hikers can choose to either go left or right around the loop to Hobart Creek Reservoir. If you prefer the shorter route, be sure to turn left.
No, Hobart Reservoir isn't haunted, but keep an eye out for the "Ghost of a Sawmill" along your hike to the reservoir.
You'll see a remnant of failed construction, although, there is uncertainty about what was being built! Helping to fuel the mystery in the woods is a large steam boiler that's said to be from the 1800s! It's quite fascinating and worth looking for as you journey through this Nevada wilderness.
Take time to enjoy your surroundings! Picnic areas can be found beneath the tall trees at the 6.75-mile mark.
The hike will take more than five hours to complete. Look out for native birds and wildlife including black bears. Bring a backpack or even a tent as camping is allowed.
Be wowed by the gorgeous views of Washoe Valley. This trail is part of the larger Tahoe Rim Trail system including Ash Canyon.
Bring horses and the pups, too! Make sure they’re on a leash as they enjoy the numerous creeks that flow through the wooded area.
Once you’ve made it to the end of the trail, relax and enjoy the lovely Pine Trees and wildflowers. Enjoy the sparkling sun as it hits the water and puts on a glittering show. You will be glad to have made it all the way to Hobart Creek Reservoir!
The reservoir is great for fishing! Bring your bait and get ready to catch many varieties of fish, including trout.
