If you're getting tired of hiking the same trails over and over, maybe it's time to check out a lesser-known - but still 100% awesome - place to go for a hike.
Head to Republican City for this terrific hiking opportunity. As the home of the Harlan County Reservoir, Republican City is full of amazing outdoor recreational activities.
One of them is North Outlet Park. This lovely wooded park is located right up against the Republican River and offers some great ways to explore nature and enjoy Nebraska's lovely scenery.
Within the park is a moderate-difficulty, 1.4-mile loop trail.
River's Edge Nature Trail is an exceptional trail that will take you through wooded areas along the Republican River.
It's a real nature path, with a dirt trail that passes through some rather rough terrain at certain points. In the summer, you may encounter tall grasses and fallen logs. It makes for an interesting and somewhat challenging hike.
This is certainly not your ordinary stroll through the park; it's a beautiful journey through some of the area's prettiest landscapes. Even though you're in a populated area, the trail feels quite remote and peaceful.
Because of the abundant vegetation, it's important to remember to bring bug spray to repel ticks. It's a good idea to wear long pants and sleeves if possible.
To get to River's Edge Nature Trail, head to North Outlet Park in the small Harlan County town of Republican City.
