If you’re looking for a beautiful place to relax and recharge, head on over to the sand beaches at Lake McConaughy in Ogallala, Nebraska. This huge lake has many things to see and do, including miles of white sand beaches. Play in the waves or relax on the sand; there’s no wrong way to enjoy a day at Lake McConaughy.
Lake McConaughy is Nebraska’s largest reservoir.
In fact, at 30,000 acres, its dam is one of the largest of its kind in the world. The fish in this gorgeous lake grow to huge proportions, and they regularly break state, and even world, records.
The lake’s nickname is “Big Mac,” and it's easy to see why.
The lake is huge and has many communities surrounding its shores. You can find tons of things to do in this area along with its world class fishing.
There’s plenty of boating to experience, as it is a hugely popular activity on the lake.
You’ll find winds surfers, stand up paddlers, and boaters out on the water. The clear waters make for beautiful swimming, and everyone flocks to their white sandy beaches.
There are some sandy beach areas around the lake that are designated for walk-ins only.
Spend the day soaking up the sun and splashing in the waves. There are also small day use sandy beach areas in the campgrounds located around the lake.
There’s so many things to see and do in this wonderful area.
If you're spending the weekend, try your hand at golfing, geocaching, or even birding. Then head back to the beach when you’re done to soak up the peace that comes from spending time by the water.
There are some park and activity fees you may have to pay during your time on this gorgeous lake.
All vehicles will need a Nebraska Park Permit, which is $30.00 for an annual pass. Camping fees start at $10.00 per night for their primitive spots, and go up from there. Make sure to check out their website HERE for more information.
