Get the car packed up - you're going to want to visit Nebraska's Bohemian Alps after you see how peaceful and beautiful it is!
The Bohemian Alps is an area in southeast Nebraska where large numbers of Czech immigrants settled in the 1800s.
The area's charming name comes from its undulating hills. Czech immigrants thought that it was reminiscent of the home they'd left behind. Today, the Czech community is still going strong in this part of Nebraska.
Czechland Lake Recreation Area is an under-appreciated spot in the midst of the Bohemian Alps in Nebraska, just a mile north of Prague.
The lake was formed in 1988 as a part of the Cottonwood Creek Flood Control Project. It covers 86 acres and sits within the 260-acre Czechland Lake Recreation area.
The site was meant to not only control the area's water, but to provide a place for people to come to play and enjoy the outdoors. The lake is a great fishing spot, and no-wake boating is allowed.
Thousands of trees have been planted here to provide shade and a habitat for wildlife. There are some paved trails connecting the day-use areas to the campsites.
That's right - you can bring your RV or tent to enjoy a multi-day adventure at Czechland Lake. Restrooms and RV electric hookups are available for guests.
If you plan on bringing the whole family, be sure to check out the picnic shelters and tables, fire rings, and grills. There's everything you need for an outdoor get-together.
Views like this over the lake are more than enough reason to visit as soon as possible. The recreation area is open from April to October every year.
No park pass is required to enter or use Czechland Lake Recreation Area in Nebraska's Bohemian Alps. You do need a license if you want to go hunting or fishing, however. Visit the LPNNRD website for day-use hours, camping details, and additional information to plan your visit.
Bruno, Nebraska is another Bohemian Alps town - and something truly awesome happened there in the 1980s.
