Whether you'd rather make your way over ten miles across an entire day or merely wander for an hour or two, the Volunteer Trail in Nashville's Long Hunter State Park is well worth the time and effort. This beautiful space is the stuff dreams are made of!
The Volunteer Trail comes in at almost exactly 10.7 miles in Hermitage, Tennessee, located right outside the core of Nashville.
The trail is considered moderately trafficked and has modeled as an out-and-back style trail. Most folks using for hiking, walking, and trail running.
Volunteer Trail borders Percy Priest Lake, offering up beautiful views all year 'round. The hike is beautiful and stunningly wild, full of wildlife and lush vegetation.
Every season offers something special and new, with stunning summer vistas and the orange and reds of fall colors.
There's not much of an elevation gain, just a little over 600 feet, making it easy for folks of all ages to experience the trail. The majority of it is flat, with just a few hills.
The trail is mostly shaded, and there are campgrounds in Long Hunter State Park if you'd rather not leave at the end of the day. There's group camping available, as well as backcountry camping for the most dedicated of nature lovers.
You can visit Long Hunter State Park for yourself during the day, from 7am to 7pm. Keep in mind that there's no hiking on the trails after dark, and keep your adventures to the daytime!
