Hiking To This Aboveground Cave Near Nashville Will Give You A Surreal Experience

In Sparta, Tennessee you start from the top and trek down to the bottom. As opposed to the famed Cumberland Caverns and Lost Sea Adventure, you don't need to walk a half a mile downward to find yourself at the Lost Cave - you simply have to slip through a wall of rock, just the way you imagined. At only a couple of hours from Nashville, this is the perfect outing for all of you amateur spelunkers. The kids will fall in love, too!

Sparta is about two hours from Nashville, hiding the gorgeous Lost Creek Falls & Cave. The land was purchased in 2012 by Fall Creek Falls State Park, though it was once privately owned and maintained.

Did you know that the 1994 classic, "The Jungle Book" was filmed here? Yep. This is where the live-action version was filmed, elevating the beautiful heart of the natural area. The falls themselves are located about a quarter mile from the trailhead. If this doesn't sound like the perfect hike to you, we're not sure what does...? Especially if you're coming with a group!

Lost Creek Cave is absolutely HUGE. As in, stop-you-in-your-tracks, drop-your-jaw huge. You'll definitely want to bring the correct equipment for the adventure - headlamps and hiking shoes - especially if you're looking to go deeper in the cave. Keep track of those little ones!

Hidden away in the Tennessee wilderness, you may find that the trailhead is hard to find at first. Make sure to bring a GPS or your smart phone and enter in, "Lost Creek Falls, Sparta". It should take you on a winding adventure down the backroads through Tennessee's lush and extensive wilderness.

Keep in mind that there are two smaller caves that lie on either side of the falls, both of them much more safe for littles to explore. Unlike the larger cave entrance, these aboveground spaces don't lead anywhere. Score! Strap on those headlamps and let their amateur love of spelunking take flight.
