Montana’s Lake Elmo State Park Is More Accessible Than Ever Thanks To This New Technology

Lake Elmo State Park in Billings, Montana, now offers an all-terrain wheelchair for rent, making it accessible to people of all abilities.

If you love the great outdoors, life can be pretty wonderful here in Montana. There are plenty of spots to take in the natural landscape. But, even better than beautiful views is the plethora of activities to enjoy here. From hiking to swimming to boating, there's something for every interest. But, availability doesn't mean accessibility. That's why we always love when an outdoor attraction provides accommodations to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy nature. Lake Elmo State Park in Billings is an accessible park in Montana with a brand-new all-terrain wheelchair available for rent.

Lake Elmo State Park in Billings offers 123 acres of public recreation located on the north side of the city. It's a great place to visit if you love Montana breezes, great views, and water.

The park is named for Lake Elmo, the 64-acre reservoir which sits as the focal point of the park.

It also has routes for walking, the most notable of which is the 1.4-mile nature trail.

Rogers Pier allows for fishing on the south shore of the water.

The park has been a beloved spot to escape since 1983, but beginning in August 2023 it has become accessible for even more people. The introduction of the Action Trackchair opens the park to people of all abilities to explore. The all-terrain wheelchair can access any of the trails, as well as the fishing pier.

There are paved areas of the park, but the packed gravel and rougher trails are more easily accessible using the new all-terrain wheelchair. The chair can be rented directly from the park.

In addition to trails and the lake, visitors can also enjoy the pavilions for their own special events.

Lake Elmo State Park was already a lovely place to visit, but accessibility for more people makes it even more special.

Lake Elmo State Park is open daily throughout the year from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. For help planning your visit, be sure to visit the official Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks website. To reserve the Action Trackchair, call the Lake Elmo State Park manager at 406-422-2277. You can also contact the R5 Headquarters front desk at 406-247-2940.
