There are quite a few beautiful parks featuring gorgeous lakes here in Montana, but this one is extra special.
Located between Libby and Kalispell, Thompson Chain of Lakes State Park sits for 20 miles along Highway 2.
As its name suggests, the 3,000 acres it encompasses offers access to 18 different lakes.
Among them are Lower Thompson Lake, Middle Thompson Lake, Upper Thompson Lake, McGregor Lake, Little McGregor Lake, Loon Lake, and Horseshoe Lake.
For those who prefer to spend a few days at a time soaking up all the nature they can, this spot offers 83 standard campsites and eight group campsites. They're rustic, so be sure to bring your own water.
In addition to simply taking in the beauty any time of the day, the park offers activities like boating, swimming, and water skiing. It's also renowned for its fishing.
Best of all, this beautiful state park with lakes in Montana is close enough to other parks that there's tons of variety. Spend a few days here, then make your way to Middle Thompson Lake to enjoy Logan State Park. However you choose to enjoy your time here, I can almost guarantee that you'll want to come back.
Thompson Chain of Lakes State Park can be accessed throughout the year, however, roads are not maintained in the winter. Camping is also available year-round on a first-come, first-serve basis. Always check conditions for any potential seasonal closures before visiting any outdoor recreation spot. And, don't forget to let someone know where you're going and when you plan to be back.
