The Little-Known Chinese Wall In Montana You Can Only Reach By Hiking This 62-Mile Trail

Montana's Chinese Wall in the Bob Marshall Wilderness is a challenging yet rewarding destination for experienced hikers.

Did you know Montana has its very own "Great Wall of China?" If you didn't, you're not alone. This massive escarpment sits buried deep within the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area—very deep, in fact. Most of us will have to settle for looking at photos because hiking to the Chinese Wall involves a ton of experience and your willingness to camp in the wilderness to reach it.

Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex encompasses an Earth-shattering 1.5 million acres of largely untouched Rocky Mountain terrain.

Needless to say, only very experienced backpackers should attempt the Chinese Wall Trail.

Backpacking in the Bob Marshall Wilderness is no joke. Fortunately, the trail itself is pretty straightforward.

You'll pass all kinds of rugged beauty as you head to your elusive destination.

There is actually more than one way to reach the Chinese Wall, which isn't surprising—it's massive.

Hikers can reach it from the east or west side of the wilderness boundaries.

The Chinese Wall makes up part of the Continental Divide, meaning water on either side of the wall flows into either the Atlantic Ocean (through the Gulf of Mexico) or the Pacific.

The cross-country Continental Divide Trail also includes parts of the wall.

This iconic limestone outcropping is legendary among a select group of outdoor enthusiasts.

But there are plenty of people who were born and raised in the Treasure State who have never heard of it.

While seeing the Wall is a rather remarkable experience, we cannot stress enough that only experienced hikers should attempt it.

This entire trail is grizzly bear country, so if you do go, be prepared.

There's no other geological feature quite like this in the country, much less Montana.

Seeing it is truly a bucket list experience.

Had you heard of the Chinese Wall before today?
