Few People Know There’s A Beautiful State Park Hiding In This Tiny Montana Town

Those who love adventure will certainly find it throughout the great state of Montana. From wide open spaces to forested hiking trails, there's something for just about everyone who loves the outdoors. One of the best ways to experience the magic here is by checking out the lands designated for public use. We all know about spots like Glacier National Park, but there are plenty of smaller state parks to explore. And, the one we're visiting today might be the best state park in Montana!

Clark's Lookout State Park is located in Dillon, about two hours southeast of Bozeman. While there are plenty of state parks with tons of trails and adventures, this one is special because of the history it holds.

On August 13, 1805, Captain William Clark looked out over the Beaverhead River to get a glimpse of what lay ahead.

The Lewis and Clark Expedition, searching for new land, stopped here and Captain Clark took three compass readings.

These readings were an integral part of their next steps.

Today, the park is dedicated to retelling the story of the expedition through interpretive signs and maps.

While it's fun to look out and see what the expedition may have seen, this is also a beautiful place to appreciate the state a bit more.

Plan on taking one of the hikes in the park, while also looking out for wildlife. Then, enjoy a picnic lunch before heading out.

This unfussy park is perfect for those who love the outdoors, but also find themselves fascinated by the history of how this part of the county was explored. It's easy for us to argue that it might just be the best state park in Montana!
