Let's go to the zoo today, Missouri! Most animal lovers will likely agree that animals have so much personality and make life so much better. If you love animals, you will love Big Joel's Safari in Missouri. The 15-acre zoo gives you the opportunity to get an up-close view of the animals and to feed many of them.
Carve out at least half of a day, especially if you're a big animal lover, for your visit to Big Joel's Safari in Wright City, which is home to more than 500 animals.
Definitely bring your camera with you, too, because you never know what kind of characters you'll meet. Check out the kangaroos mugging for the picture below.
Big Joel's Safari describes itself as part zoo and part petting zoo. Essentially, if an animal walks up to you, you can pet him. You might even be able to feed him.
Visitors can purchase feed for the animals. However, before you feed any animal, look for signs to ensure they're not on dietary restrictions.
You can feed the animals by hand or with a spoon, but never allow an animal to eat straight from your cup. He might run off with it and, well, there goes your cup.
The safari's home to 60 species of animals, and you'll get to meet as many as you want — from kangaroos and camels to the sloth and goats. Big Joel's Safari is also home to reptiles, amphibians, and fish.
Due to Covid-19, a few of the popular attractions, including camel and pony rides are currently unavailable. All guests are also asked to social distance from other visitors.
In addition to its regular summer season, Big Joel's Safari hosts a A Spooky Safari in the fall.
