Let’s be honest; if you live in Mississippi, hiking is probably the last thing on your mind during the summer. But what if I told you there’s a recreation area with a hiking trail that circles a gorgeous spring-fed lake? As you make your way along the easy trail, you’ll be treated to great views. Even better, you can begin or end your hike with a dip in the refreshing waters of the lake. Take a look:
Nestled within the Homochitto National Forest, the Clear Springs Recreation Area is one of the state’s best kept secrets.
The recreation area is centered around Clear Springs, a 12-acre spring-fed lake.
Several biking and hiking trails begin at the recreation area. The most popular is the Clear Springs Trail, which at just 0.6 miles, is perfect for hikers of all ages and skill levels.
Part primitive, part improved, the trail includes a mix of natural terrain and boardwalks.
Richardson Creek Trail is another popular trek. At 8 miles, it's a bit on the longer side and is rated moderate.
Not into hiking? No problem; just head straight to the lake.
The refreshing waters are perfect for cooling off and sure to become a new favorite.
A great place to spend an entire day (and night), the recreation area also includes a campground, pavilion, picnic tables, and restrooms.
