As a true introvert, I love the quiet I find on the trail. We've found a fantastic, serene hike, the Legion State Park Camp Trail near Louisville, Mississippi, the perfect first hike of the new year.

The Legion State Park Camp Trail is a 2.1-mile loop trail that is moderately challenging. It is a hidden gem and often uncrowded; you likely won't see many other hikers while on the trail.

The parking lot is near the park's lodge, the Legion Lodge, a hand-hewn log building erected in the 1930s. The path takes hikers north and turns to the west, where the loop begins. It takes hikers through forests and past a small lake, offering peaceful views of trees, foliage, and water. The path goes up and down stairs and hills, an excellent opportunity for moderate exercise. During winter, the trail is covered with dense leaves, which may be slippery, especially after wet weather.

Hikers note that the trail is well-maintained but lacks clear signage in places. It is recommended that hikers check in with state park staff before they begin to ensure they know the route. The trail is generally kid-friendly but not recommended for strollers because it has stairs and gravel in places. Leashed dogs are welcome in the state park and on the Legion State Park Camp Trail.
