When it comes to great wildlife viewing destinations in Mississippi, one place you don’t want to overlook is Goose Overlook. Aptly named, the elevated platform offers stunning views of migrating geese as well as deer.
Goose Overlook is nestled within the Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge.
A great place for outdoor fun, the refuge spans 45,000 acres and contains wetlands, cypress groves, prairie grasslands, and forests.
Goose Overlook, which is a 30-foot high observation platform, overlooks the Dickerson Arm of Bluff Lake.
It's open during daylight hours, year-round.
However, the views are the best in fall, when hundreds of overwintering Canada Geese can be seen from the overlook.
Canada Geese migrate twice a year. They migrate north to their breeding sites in April, May, and June. Then, in September and October, they head south to avoid the cold.
In past years, as many as 400 Canada Geese have been spotted from the overlook – and that’s in addition to upwards of 70 white-tailed deer.
Seating and binoculars are built in to the overlook, making it easy to take in the views.
A great spot for all wildlife lovers, Goose Overlook is easily accessible.
A level, 150-foot, handicap-accessible sidewalk leads straight to the overlook.
Between the great views and easy accessibility, it’s plain to see why Goose Overlook is a favorite wildlife viewing area for many!
