A Drone Flew High Above An Uninhabited Island In Mississippi And Caught The Most Incredible Footage

Thanks to drones, we can view familiar sights from new heights or take in places we have never seen before. Deer Island is likely the latter. The small, uninhabited island lies just a few miles off the state’s coastline. But without regular ferry service to the island, most residents have never visited — and that’s a shame because it’s truly beautiful. Luckily, Mississippi State University GSI and the Guice Agency captured some incredible footage of the island. Take a look:

Deer Island sits just ¼ mile from the coast of Biloxi.

It’s so close that you can actually see it from the mainland.

Brimming with beauty, Deer Island boasts 17 miles of undisturbed sandy beaches.

Roomy, somewhat remote, and often free of people, the island is the perfect place for some fun in the sun... and the water.

It’s also home to an array of wildlife, including ten types of endangered species.

The island is home to a diverse bird population, which includes shorebirds, marsh birds, and migrating species.

Aside from a pier and the possible addition of restrooms in the future, the 400-acre island is undeveloped. And according to the state, who owns the island, there aren’t any plans to change that.

Perfect for smaller boats, the pier is in 3.5' of water at high tide.

Deer Island is open to the public. However, since visitors must provide their own transportation to the island, many are unable to access it. Fortunately for us, though, there’s this incredible footage of Deer Island, so we can gawk at its beauty from afar — and pretty much every other angle.
