Myre-Big Island State Park in Minnesota offers a beautiful island oasis with extensive trails and scenic views.

Living in a state with more than 60 state parks, Minnesotans are no strangers to wonderful places to see the outdoors. Our most popular parks host half a million visitors each year. But others are much less popular. One of the state's little-known parks happens to be one of Minnesota's best-kept secrets. Myre-Big Island State Park is home to a beautiful island oasis, and you'll want to visit. Take a look:

Myre-Big Island State Park is a southern Minnesota destination just outside of Albert Lea. You'll find it at 19499 780th Ave, Albert Lea, MN 56007.

This beautiful state park spans more 1,500 acres of mostly oak savanna. Oak trees dot the fields of tall grasses.

Warm weather brings beautiful wildflowers and other wildlife.

And winter, with its bare trees, brings a quiet yet still beautiful look to the park.

No matter when you visit, it's a great opportunity to pitch a tent and spend the night. After all, there's lots to do at this park!

For one thing, there are more than 16 miles of hiking trails, 6 miles of paved bike trails, and even 7 miles of mountain bike paths.

A quiet walk across the grassy landscape is sure to make you appreciate southern Minnesota's scenery.

Of course, the island is the main draw of this little-known park. It covers 117 acres in Albert Lea Lake.

The island is covered in a maple and basswood forest that is also lined with lovely trails. There are also plenty of places to sprawl out for a picnic.

Best of all, you don't need a boat to reach Big Island. Just cross the causeway any time you want to take in this unique island oasis!
