All across Minnesota, short and sweet trails lead hikers through some of the state's most beautiful landscape. We've already shared many of Minnesota's most beautiful short hikes here. But there are many others to discover, including the one we want to introduce today. The 5-mile Mazomani Trail at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge is a beautiful trek through a lesser-explored part of Minnesota. If you're looking for a place to hike outside of the busy state parks, this might be your best bet. Read on below to learn all that this lovely trail has to offer.
The Mazomani Trail is a 5-mile path through a beautiful section of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. This 14,000-acre expanse is divided into fourteen distinct units. The Mazomani Trail is in the Louisville Swamp unit.
As you hike along the trail, you'll have an up-close view of the wetlands that make up the Louisville Swamp unit. Surrounded by trees, this lush landscape is full of beauty.
The trail is not among Minnesota's most popular trails. But that does not mean it's not worth hiking. This little-known spot is perfectly peaceful. You're unlikely to run into other hikers.
You'll mostly see wide fields, tall trees, and lively wetlands. There are a few inclines along the trail, but most people will be able to complete it. The path is mostly flat, with beautiful scenery all around.
Another thing you're likely to see: wildlife. Being inside a wildlife refuge, the Mazomani Trail may bring you face-to-face with insects, migrating birds, deer, and more. If you're looking for a peaceful, wildlife-filled hike, this easy 5-mile trail might just be the ticket.
