There are plenty to choose from, but one of the best is a ruggedly beautiful spot on Minnesota's North Shore. For those who make the journey to its location in Tettegouche State Park, a trip to the Palisade Head overlook will be an unforgettable experience.

Palisade Head is a gorgeous rock formation on the North Shore of Lake Superior. At its tallest point, it stands about 300 feet above the lake.

For many Minnesotans, a trip to Palisade Head is quite the distance. The overlook is in Tettegouche State Park, about 240 miles from the Twin Cities.

The journey may feel even longer to those anticipating the gorgeous views. Once you can finally see Lake Superior's sparkling blue waters, you know you're in the right place.

The parking lot at Palisade Head is ample, with a trail leading to the scenic overlook.

Follow the path through stands of beautiful northern trees. It's especially beautiful in fall when the leaves are changing.

When you reach the top, you'll be greeted by absolutely beautiful views. In every direction, nothing but northern Minnesota's wild natural scenery.

The up-close view of the North Shore's jagged cliffs is absolutely awe-inspiring.

On clear days, you'll also be able to see the gentle slopes and hills of the tree-covered Sawtooth Mountains.

Of course, the view of Palisade Head in the distance is simply magnificent. It alone will make your journey to this overlook well worth it.
