Because every region of Minnesota has waterfalls, it should come as no surprise that northern Minnesota has the most.
This area of the state also has the largest concentration of lakes and other natural bodies of water, so it makes sense that it has the biggest concentration of waterfalls.
In particular, Lake County, Minnesota is home to 12 waterfalls, which happens to be the most of any other county in the state.
Some of these waterfalls are very famous. Gooseberry Falls is probably the most visited waterfall in all of Minnesota, and deservedly so.
Illgen Falls is popular, too. Located in Tettegouche State Park, it's about 1/2-mile downstream from the High Falls of the Baptism River.
Speaking of the High Falls, it is another of Lake County's most gorgeous spots. It's the second-highest waterfall in Minnesota, in addition to being the highest located completely within the state.
