Pipestone National Monument is a beautiful historic site in the southwestern Minnesota town of Pipestone. It preserves ancient pipestone quarries used by Native American people. The quarries are still used today.

One popular feature at Pipestone National Monument is the Circle Trail. This 3/4-mile trek will take you to the most beautiful places at the monument. The first that you'll notice is the gorgeous pink cliffs that line the path.

These cliffs are made of pink quartzite, a type of rock native to this area of southwestern Minnesota. You won't find it in any other region of Minnesota, making this place truly unique.

Many areas along the cliff hike feature well-known formations. You'll climb up stairs and look through peepholes to see them for yourself.

The other important feature at Pipestone National Monument is the Pipestone Creek. This small but lovely creek flows through the prairie and tumbles over the rugged rocks in some areas.
