The Most Romantic Valentine’s Day Hike You’ll Find in Michigan

If anyone ever tells you that hiking cannot be a romantic activity, stop talking to them. You don't need that sort of negativity in your life. Then, strap on those hiking boots and grab your special someone: I've found the single most romantic hiking trail in Michigan. Located at Presque Isle Park, this stunning trail offers some of the most incredible views in the state, if not the entire nation.

The Presque Isle Park Loop (not to be confused with the Presque Isle Falls Loop) is 2.3 miles in length and fairly easy. It leads hikers around the shoreline of Presque Isle, a small peninsula located on Lake Superior that offers incredibly photogenic views, making it perfect for a couple's hike. It's partially paved, mostly flat, and incredibly beautiful.

Valentine's Day is a winter holiday, and this hiking trail in Michigan becomes a veritable wonderland in the winter. Lake Superior is stunning, covered in a layer of ice, and the snowy landscape is like something from a dream. It can get quite frigid, though, so make sure you dress very warmly, and don't let frostbite get you! I have lots of hiking clothing and gear from REI that I've found to be quite handy when the temperatures are in the negatives.

Lay your head on your beloved's shoulder, and soak in the incredible panoramic views. If you're feeling especially bold and plan to make waves this Valentine's Day, the magnificent views make for the perfect backdrop for your picturesque proposal. Start the hike as "friends" and complete it as fiancees. How magical!

If you plan to bring the pups, don't - this trail is not dog-friendly (I know, huge bummer). Wear very sturdy, warm hiking boots that offer excellent traction on icy surfaces. Around this time of year, it's not uncommon to see folks ice fishing or snowshoeing; the list of fun things to do on the Presque Isle Park loop is only as limited as your imagination.

Remember that sometimes, when there's snow on the ground, the trail can be difficult to follow. Often, there will be footprints from someone else to help guide you - so I've never found it too terribly tough. Hiking is one of my all-time favorite activities, and hiking an outrageously scenic hiking trail in Michigan with the love of my life is even better.
