Now that is some bang for your buck, as they say! Embark on this waterfall hike in the Porkies for an unforgettable outdoor adventure.
The Presque Isle River Waterfalls Trail, 1.9 miles out and back and rated as moderately challenging, is located in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park.
This trail features three waterfalls: Nawadaha, Manido, and Manabezho.
Nawadaha Falls is the uppermost of the three waterfalls on this hike, with a 15-foot drop.
Manido Falls is the smallest of the three waterfalls you will visit on this trail, and mighty nevertheless.
Take some of the small offshoot trails to get closer to the waterfalls.
Manabezho Falls sports a 25-foot drop as the largest waterfall on the Presque Isle River.
Stroll across the impressive suspension bridge, taking you through the shady trees.
You will have a nice view of Lake Superior from the bridge. Extend your trek if you hike out on the east side of the Presque Isle River, cross the bridge to the shores of Lake Superior, and then hike back on the west side of the river. Or vice versa, take the west trail out and the east trail back. The west trail involves stairs and a boardwalk.
Another highlight of this trail is its proximity to Lake Superior.
Make your way to the beach, where you may even want to take a swim.
Or strap on your snowshoes to hike the trail in the winter months perhaps? No matter the season, perchance you will share the path with some of the local wildlife.
This unforgettable outdoor adventure in the Mitten State is yours for the taking, grand vistas and wildlife included. Pure Michigan! For park hours and entrance fees, visit the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park website. We have to admit that Michigan does in fact look a bit like a mitten on the map, don't you think? And that the Porkies caught on as a clever nickname for those Porcupine Mountains.
