While residents of Massachusetts are no stranger to colder temperatures, it typically begins to warm up this time of year. Weather forecasts are predicting an unusual spring polar vortex sweeping through the east coast this weekend, and Massachusetts could soon see record-breaking low temperatures for the month of May. The east coast could get hit with this untimely polar vortex and is expected to see rain, near-freezing temperatures, and potentially even a dusting of snow. This springtime winter vortex is said to hit the Bay State on Saturday morning, May 9th.
An unexpected cold front is sweeping through the east coast this weekend, and Massachusetts could see record-breaking low temperatures.
This storm is heading northeastern, and when it clashes with arctic air, a phenomenon known as a polar vortex is possible.
While people living in Massachusetts are used to cold temperatures, this kind of springtime cold front is unseasonable. You can expect lots of precipitation over the weekend, and potentially a frost.
This springtime polar vortex is creating low temperatures all over the country, but is said to hit Massachusetts on Saturday morning, May 9th. The National Weather Service predicts that temperatures could drop 20 degrees below average.
While the severity of the storm will depend on the region you live in, the western part of Massachusetts is said to get hit the hardest. If you've begun planting this May, you may want to bring your plants indoors over the weekend.
It's projected that over 75 million Americans will wake up to below-freezing temperatures on Saturday morning, and unfortunately, Massachusetts is no exception.
