You Can Pet Real Live Sharks And Sting Rays At The Largest Aquarium In Massachusetts

Though most people have probably never considered getting up close and personal with live sharks and stingrays, this awesome aquatic attraction in Massachusetts may change your mind. Here’s how you can pet and learn about real rays and sharks, no swimming required. Just head to the New England Aquarium in Boston!

For over 50 years, the aquarium has made its mark in Boston, not only as a day trip destination but as an organization dedicated to conservation and research.

This incredible aquarium is the largest in the state and home to an awesome "touch tank" filled.

A touch tank is basically like an aquatic petting zoo. Most only let you interact with small fish or mollusks but this one is filled with real cow nose rays, Atlantic rays, and epaulette sharks!

If you've ever searched for "shark petting near me," the New England Aquarium is the place to go!

Visitors of all ages can walk right up to the edge of the tank, lower their hands in, and pet the creatures as they swim by. It’s not scary, promise!

You’ll be mesmerized by these sharks and rays as they glide gracefully through the clear water in the tank. The feel of shark skin is one you’ll never forget.

Besides the shark and ray tank, visitors can check out a smaller touch exhibit where you can pick up starfish and touch sea urchins.

Stingray petting and shark petting at the New England Aquarium is such a fun and unique experience. The exhibit opens daily at 9:30 a.m. and closes 15 minutes prior to the aquarium's closing time. It is included with admission to the aquarium.

While you’re there, be sure to meet the aquarium’s penguin colony and stick around for the seal show!

When you visit the New England Aquarium, you won’t ever forget your encounter with live sharks and stingrays at this epic aquarium as well as other exhibits like the African penguins, the Atlantic harbor seals, or the giant Pacific octopus.

While my daughter was hesitant to touch the sting rays and sharks, she certainly enjoyed watching them swim by! Her brother and cousin fared much better and loved interacting with the sea creatures in the touch tank.
