One Of The Biggest Meteor Showers Of The Year Will Be Visible In Massachusetts In April

Meteor showers are some of nature’s most spectacular events. They’re short periods of time when shooting stars fall fast and thick through the skies, and we have one of the biggest showers of the year coming up this April!

Here’s what you need to know about the Lyrid meteor shower, which will grace the skies above the Bay State in late April, 2021.

Keep your eyes on the skies this spring – one of the brightest meteor showers of the year is scheduled for late April.

The Lyrid meteor shower is set to produce a sparkling show between April 21 and 22. The shower gets its name from its position near the constellation Lyra.

One cool thing about the Lyrid shower is that it's known for producing fireballs, which are super bright streaks that look like a ball of fire flaming towards the Earth. Don’t worry though – they’re not dangerous!

For the best viewing conditions, plan to stay up late or get up early. The show will likely be brightest an hour or so after the moon sets and before dawn.

This shower usually produces about 15 shooting stars an hour, but can feature shooting star bursts of up to 100 shooting stars an hour. Pretty dazzling stuff!

Of course, you’ll get the best view of the night sky if you live in a rural area or are willing to drive out of the city, where light pollution can obscure the display.
