Lazy summer afternoons by the lake are some of the sweetest memories you can make. When it comes to great places to swim, boat, and just relax, this hidden lake in the Berkshires is among the best. Keep scrolling to find out more about visiting Lake Onota.
Lake Onota has some of the bluest water you’ll find anywhere in Massachusetts. Tucked away in the town of Pittsfield, this blue gem offers 617-acres of pristine enjoyment. Its clear, tempting waters will have you in your bathing suit in no time.
Lake Onota is perfect for pretty much any water activity you’d like to indulge in. There are clean beaches with a lifeguard on duty during the months of July and August, and anglers are also welcome. Kayaking around the lake on a still, clear morning is a true delight, and even water skiing is allowed here. In fact, there’s a double concrete boat ramp available to use free of charge on the southeast shore, just to make getting into the water as easy as possible.
The opportunities for fun don’t stop once you dry off. Lake Onota is right next to Burbank Park, which is a 153-acre green space with heaps of appeal. You can bring a blanket and picnic materials for a beautiful lunch in the sunshine, or set the kids loose on the park’s great little playground.
In terms of logistics, visiting couldn’t be easier. You don’t have to hike to reach this lake, and parking is provided. Your furry friends can join you at the shore as long as they stay on a leash, and there are free grilling areas available if you want to cook up your catch on-site. There’s no admission cost to visit the lake or the park, so bring as many friends and family as you can.
Stopping by this hidden lake on a warm day is one of the best decisions you can make in the Bay State.
