The Gorgeous 1.8-Mile Hike In Massachusetts’ Buffam Falls Conservation Area That Will Lead You Past A Waterfall And A River

Massachusetts is filled with little hidden trails and babbling brooks that are just waiting to be discovered. This lovely trail in the Buffam Falls Conservation Area will take you along a pretty river and to a gorgeous waterfall, with the option to see more than one! Here’s how you can explore these peaceful woods.

Buffam Falls Conservation Area’s White Trail will take you through a hemlock forest to several waterfalls.

These woods almost feel like something from another age. The tree trunks stretch far into the sky and the forest floor is covered in ivy and soft moss.

Even the little river that runs through the woods has a name worthy of a fairytale – Amethyst Brook.

The first waterfall on the White Trail can be reached by following the path over relatively flat terrain. It’s a beautiful cascade that makes for a lovely picnic spot.

You’ll need to cross the brook to reach the second waterfall on this hike, but this should be no problem for hikers with water-resistant boots. The water level at the crossing is usually “puddle height.”

The second waterfall tumbles into a deep, clear pool. Feel free to dip your toes in, but be careful to keep your footing on the slippery rocks.

This trail is suitable for beginner hikers and dogs. Some portions feature uneven ground and roots that make it essential to watch your step.

The best time to tackle the Buffam Falls White Trail is between April and October, but the trail is also accessible for winter hikes.
