Find 4 Bucket-List-Level Views in Massachusetts Without Needing to Be an Expert Hiker
For bucket-list views without a long hike, be sure to check out these four easy Massachusetts journeys.
I think that we can all agree that one of the best things about hiking is the feeling of being rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view when you finally reach the highly anticipated summit of a strenuous trail. It really doesn’t get any better than this. However, for those of us who are less experienced hikers, the journey to reach these views can often be daunting and perhaps even dangerous. Fortunately, there are several places in Massachusetts where you don’t have to work hard to uncover an incredible scenic view, including one spot where you don’t even need to hike at all.
1. Walden Pond - Concord

Concord’s Walden Pond Trail is not just a scenic hike, but also a lesson in history. The gorgeous hike takes place on property that long ago inspired American author Henry David Thoreau’s book, "Walden.” The lovely 1.8-mile narrow trail offers hikers beautiful woodsy views of the pond (where you can also swim or boat). Many visitors also come to see the replica of Thoreau's one-room cabin. The hike takes between 30 minutes to an hour to complete.
2. Halibut Point Trail - Rockport
There is a reason the oceanfront Halibut Point Trail in Rockport is one of my favorite hikes in Massachusetts. The 1.7-mile walk may be short, but the payoff is simply breathtaking. The easy hike, which takes 30-60 minutes to complete, offers hikers a variety of sights and terrains to experience. An interpretive path takes you along the scenic site of the former Babson Farm Quarry, and then leads out to the ocean, where you are met with sweeping views of the Atlantic.
3. World's End Trail - Hingham

For those looking for a bit of a longer hike that is still within the easy range, the World's End Trail in Hingham is a great option. The four-mile loop trail takes roughly one and a half to two hours to complete and is definitely worth the extra time. Your payoff is beautiful views of the ocean and the Boston skyline. The trail also contains some picturesque carriage paths designed by renowned architect Frederick Law Olmsted.
4. Mount Greylock Scenic Byway - Lanesborough
If you are searching for bucket list views in Massachusetts without the hassle of hiking, a drive up the Mount Greylock Scenic Byway (also known as Rockwell Road) in the Berkshires region might be up your alley. Mount Greylock is 3,491 feet high, making it the highest point in Massachusetts. The scenic road begins at the Mount Greylock State Reservation Park Visitor Center in Lanesborough and travels for 16 miles up the stunning mountain, eventually leading to the majestic summit. If you visit on a clear day, you can see up to 90 miles away and can view five different states. The paved auto road is generally open from late spring to mid-fall.
