Ocean City becomes a popular tourist attraction every year, creating the ultimate haven for delicious seafood, family-atmosphere, and spectacular beachside fun. However, what many visitors might not know is that just a mere 20 minutes away, there is another secluded beach in Maryland that is worth the trek. This unique beach absolutely deserves a place on any outdoor adventure bucket list, and once you see what it's like, you'll be clamoring to mark your calendar for a visit. Head to Assateague Island if you haven't already, and prepare for gorgeous views galore.
Assateague Island is a barrier island that stretches all the way to Virginia, where it then becomes Chincoteague Island.
The Maryland portion of this stunning island remains undeveloped, keeping things natural and serene.
The white sand beaches stretch for miles and miles. You can visit several beachy spots either on the state park side or the national park side.
Splash around in the ocean, soak in the sun rays, or simply enjoy watching the wild ponies that inhabit the island. That's right, we said wild ponies!
Love to hike? There are a handful of nature trails that provide diverse sights, including dunes, boardwalks, and wetlands.
Does waking up here sound like a dream? Then camp out right on the beach! You can fall asleep to the sounds of the waves and have nothing but star-filled skies overhead as you sleep.
