Here Is The Most Remote, Isolated Spot In Maine And It’s Positively Breathtaking

When it comes to finding remote spots in Maine, it's not hard to think of a few right off the top of our heads. From a favorite bit of forest to secret lakes and streams, there are lots of places where you can be alone in Vacationland. But, there is one particular place that comes to mind when trying to think of THE most remote spot in Maine. The woods in the north tend to be visited by only the most hearty outdoor lovers but, even if you never plan on visiting, it's worth learning more about.

The 100-Mile Wilderness is considered the most rugged portion of the Appalachian Trail.

It runs between the town of Monson and just south of Baxter State Park at the Abol Bridge.

Signs warn that hikers should be prepared for at least ten days on the trail if hiking through this portion of Maine.

HIking here will take you under tunnels of Maine pines with the occasional view of a moose.

You'll also find pristine ponds and lakes.

And unique berry bogs, fast streams, and harder-to-navigate ridges.

But, the views make the harder parts well worth it.

If you plan your visit for late August, you'll meet thru hikers who might just regale you with the tales of their north-bound hike on the AT.

But, an August visit also means more crowds and harder to secure shelters.

Many people say that late June to mid-July is the best time to visit - less bugs and more time to yourself!

If hiking the entire 100-Mile Wilderness isn't in the cards for you, you can plan for a section hike.

You'll still get the views and wildlife spotting!

But, you won't have to worry about packing at least 10 days of supplies to wear on your back!

If you plan on just doing a section, you can arrange a shuttle service to pick you up on one of the logging roads that cut through the area.

Even if only hiking a section, remember that nature is unpredictable and you must be prepared and trained.

But, if you do make it to the end, you'll be crossing the Abol Bridge before heading on to Katahdin.
