The Presumpscot River Trail Is A 2.5-Mile Walk In Maine That’s Better Than Meditation
Explore the Presumpscot River Preserve Trail in Falmouth, Maine, for a serene fall hike with stunning views and diverse trails.
The summer might be over, but getting outside in Maine sure isn't! In fact, the fall is the best time to enjoy the great outdoors. The fall colors are arriving, the temps are making things a lot less sweaty, and the more trails we see the more trails we want to explore. This one will take you on a stroll along one of the most lovely rivers in southern Maine and it's sure to calm your soul.
The Presumpscot River Preserve Trail is located (unsurprisingly) in the Presumpscot River Preserve in Falmouth.
The route is about 3.5 miles made up of an out and back trail that makes it easy to access.
The route begins in a residential area, but once you begin your walk, you'll find that it enters a ravine and the outside world will feel miles away. And, of course, at some point it will be!
The network of trails exists on both sides of the river and there are a number of offshoots from the main route to explore.
While there are boardwalks and bridges, you'll want to be mindful that there are some steep areas.
And the views are incredible from both sides.
Upstream, the trail has a few offshoot loops that allow for extra views.
And downstream the trail leads to the Presumpscot Falls.
We love that this 60-acre nature preserve exists right in our back yard!
The Presumpscot River Preserve is open year round. You can learn more about it through Maine Trail Finder. For another great way to ease your soul, consider taking this unique hike with goats in Southport.
