There’s Nothing Better Than Maine’s Natural Lazy River On A Summer’s Day

Discover the hidden lazy river in Ogunquit, Maine, perfect for a fun and relaxing summer day.

If you know Maine, you're likely familiar with the town of Ogunquit. A popular place to go for a fun summer's day at the beach, Ogunquit draws crowds from across New England. But, unless you're of hearty stock, actually getting into the water might not have the same draw. Even in the middle of July, Maine oceans can come with a pretty chilly thermometer reading. But, don't fear! If you're looking to enjoy the beach in Ogunquit, but prefer warmer water, you'll love the lazy river hidden just off the beach!

Most know Ogunquit as the quintessential Maine town...

...with an awesome 3½-mile-wide beach.

One of the neatest things about the area is the dramatic tidal change that allows for an absolutely huge sand area on which to play.

In many areas you can walk so far out it seems like there's no water at all.

But, we're not here to talk about the beach...

It's the natural lazy river that we're in search of today!

Much of the time the Ogunquit River, which can be found at the southern end of the beach where it empties into the Atlantic, is calm and still.

Halfway between high tide and low tide, this calm river picks up its pace on its way towards the ocean.

During this time, you'll see people hanging out at the side with floats at the ready!

While it doesn't move fast, it will take you around the bend to the beach where you'll then jump out and start all over again!

You'll be amazed at how much fun this seemingly simple trip can be and it will surely tucker you out enough to sit back and simply enjoy the sunset at the end of the day.
