This Hidden Garden Tour In Maine’s Biggest City Will Reveal Surprising Beauty

As the winter slips away and spring and summer become more and more of a reality in Maine, it's easier to notice some of the flowers and trees that are blossoming in towns and cities across the state. Sometimes it feels that the longer we endure winter, the more incredible the blooms are. This year is no exception, which is why we're excited for all the gardens to open throughout the state. While there are plenty to visit, we love this fun self-guided tour in Portland that many people may not be aware of.

The Munjoy Hill neighborhood of Portland, located next to the beautiful Eastern Promenade, is one of the quirkiest and most fun in the city.

With unique shops and delicious local restaurants, it's great for a nice stroll heading towards the Eastern Prom.

In the spring and summer, the front yards of the homes here are filled with flowers and plants of all varieties.

That's why we were excited to learn about the annual Hidden Gardens of Munjoy Hill tour.

Hosted by the Friends of the Eastern Promenade, this self-guided tour provides an opportunity to see more than just what's in the front yard.

The tour offers a sneak peek into the private gardens of many of the homes here in this lovely seaside neighborhood.

Gardeners will meet and chat with tour goers, offering insight into how they've created their natural masterpieces.

And it's fun to connect with other avid gardeners along the way.

But you don't need to be a pro-grower to take part. Many of the people who attend the special day simply love beautiful flowers and plants.

And we love that there's entertainment along the way as well.

Attendees, who come from all over New England, leave inspired.

Once you've completed the tour, head to the Eastern Prom to relax.

And take in the views of Casco Bay.

Then, head to one of the restaurants on the hill to close out a perfect summery day.
