Hike Among Some Of The Tallest Mountains In Maine At Baxter State Park

Maine has 14 mountains that rise over 4,000 feet tall.
You can find them located in High Peaks, Bigelow Range, Eastern White Mountains, and Baxter State Park.
Three of those peaks are found in Baxter State Park.
They are Mt. Katahdin, Baxter Peak, Mount Katahdin, Hamlin Peak, and North Brother. A view of any of these majestic mountains is worth the trip.
The tallest of these mountains is Mt. Katahdin, which reaches 5,267 feet high.
It’s also the northern end of the Appalachian Trail. Katahdin actually means "The Greatest Mountain," named by the native Penobscot people.
There are 200,000 acres of wilderness and public forest in this area.
With so much to see, you may find it hard to visit for just one day. You’ll want to stay in the area and explore for days to take in as much as possible.
You can visit this state park all year long.
If you’re hiking Mt. Katahdin, make sure to reserve your parking pass in advance. It only costs $5.00, and you’ll have to reserve it before 3:00 p.m. the day before your hike. You can also show up and try to secure a parking pass if a spot opens up.
If you want to hike other areas of this gorgeous wilderness, the parking lots are first come first serve.
Every inch of this park is worth exploring! Bring lunch and make an entire day of exploring the area.
