According To The 2020 Fall Foliage Prediction Map, Here’s When You Can Expect The Colors To Peak In Your Part Of Maine

Each year we ease out of summer (if you’re like us, a bit unwillingly) and head into fall looking for the changing leaves to make us feel cozy and more peaceful. Each year we think we’ll have plenty of time to see them, but every time it seems like they appear overnight and then disappear just as quickly. To avoid that this year we’ve been researching when and where to see the best foliage and this interactive map has proven to be incredibly useful. Based on their research, this is what you can expect here in Maine!

This year we've been checking the Smoky Mountains Fall Foliage Prediction Map regularly to make sure we don't miss a thing this year. The site offers an interactive tool predicting when and where the peak fall foliage will be across America. And, luckily, Maine is one of the very best places to be this season!

Beginning the week of September 21st, Maine was still just easing into the fall season. This map shows that the southern coast up towards the downeast area was still experiencing patchy areas of foliage, while the north and west regions are nearing their peak colors.

But the week of September 28th is shaping up to be just about perfect for a fall foliage road trip! Must of the state will be experiencing peak leaves, while the coastal areas are either near peak or partially there.

This would be the perfect time to make that long-awaited trip to Baxter State Park. Even without a climb to Katahdin, the views are sure to be incredible.

And on the coast, places like Acadia National Park are a great place to check out the leaves even before they're at their peak.

By the week of October 5th much of Maine will be past its fall foliage peak, but stick to the coast and you'll be surrounded by resplendent color!

This would be a great time to spend a weekend in Portland. Shops and restaurants are in need of a little extra love this year and you'll have the opportunity to enjoy the fall foliage in a whole different way.

You'll have until about October 19th to take in the fall colors in Maine before just about all regions are past their peak. That's plenty of time to enjoy the views and remember why Maine is so extra-special in the fall!

And remember that this is simply a prediction. While we'll probably see fall foliage come and go a bit earlier this year than in the past, there are still likely to be areas where leaves are still on the trees. So, get out there and enjoy everything this beautiful season has to offer.
