Nothing screams autumn like apple picking in Maine! We love the crispness in the air, the smell of the fruit, and all the other fun activities that come with a trip to an orchard. There is a lot to choose from, so we thought we'd give you a few of the best apple orchards in Maine. Take a look and see if you can fit as many of these Maine Orchards into these next few weeks as possible - before snow takes over and apples are a thing of the past!

1. Meadow Brook Farm, Raymond

When it comes to apple picking in Maine, nothing beats this idyllic farm. Meadow Brook farm, located between Rattlesnake Mountain and Crescent Lake, is family owned and operated. The location means the perfect climate for some of the best apples in the area. They've got a great old-fashioned roadside stand where you can purchase apples and cider. Or, you can head in and pick them yourself!

2. Wallingford's Fruit House, Auburn

In addition to being absolutely beautiful, this spot (which is one of our absolute favorites) features apples you can pick, as well as wagon rides, fresh donuts, pies and delicious dumplings.

3. Boothby's Orchard, Livermore

Boothby's offers a lovely pick-em-yourself experience, but they're also a winery. In our book, this makes them a little something special. They've even got apple wine tastings! Boothby's also claims to have some of the best sweet corn in Maine. Visit them for homegrown mums, pumpkins, corn stalks and hay bales for fall decorating.

4. Lakeside Orchards, Manchester

This wonderful orchard features wagon rides and, of course, lots of picking. They also host events during the season - from featuring an artist in the orchard to the annual apple festival. They also feature local Maine foods including their own apples and cider, along with milk, meat, butter, cheese, grains, flour and specialty foods. You can even grab some beer or wine. You'll love the homebaked goodies, too!

5. Five Fields Farm, Bridgton

Five Fields is family owned and their orchards have just about every single apple variety you can name, including our favorite - the macoun. You can pick your own or pick them up in the shop. The shop also features lots of baked goodies and fresh, crisp cider. After apple season, their trails are great for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing overlooking the Lakes Region. Add this to your list of farms to visit in fall in Maine.

6. Rocky Ridge Orchard, Bowdoin

Rocky Ridge is a wonderful orchard with their own bakery. Orchard with our own Bakery. They stay open all week during the prime apple season, but close after Halloween so get there fast! If picking them yourself isn't interesting, you can always stroll up to the bakery and store for a bag of fruit and some delicious fresh pressed cider. They all make and sell pies, pastries, soups, and sandwiches. Check them out for tons of fall decorations and gourds as well.

7. Ricker Hill Orchards, Turner

Ricker Hill Orchards is a Maine mainstay. They've been in operation for more than nine generations in Maine's foothills. In addition to apple picking you'll find lots of fun activities including a corn maze and disc golf.

8. Pietree Orchard, Sweden

Pietree is great for tons of homegrown goodies. Located in Western Maine, they're dedicated to providing visitors with the best local food. In addition to apples, they grow peaches, strawberries, blueberries, and fresh vegetables. While you can pick your own here, if you'd prefer to have someone handle that for you they've got it all for sale in the shop.

9. Sweetser's Apple Barrel and Orchards, Cumberland

Sweetser's orchard might be the oldest in Maine, if not the world! The family farm has been in operation since 1812 (they celebrated their 200th anniversary in 2012!) and they support nearly 1,000 apple trees now. They've got apples aplenty, as well as apple cider, apple butter, decorative apples, gourds, ornamental corn, dried beans, and lots of other fruits and vegetables. Apple picking in Maine has never been sweeter!
