While it might not seem like we're out of the woods yet, spring and summer really are just around the corner. As temperatures become warmer, all we can do is think about the things we'll do when the mercury tells us that it's legitimately summer! First on that list? Snacks outside! Check out these awesome spots to enjoy a picnic in Maine!
1. Ram Island Light, Boothbay Harbor
If you're an ambitious picnic-goer, this one is for you! Reachable by boat, a day here involves taking to the water and then luxuriating in the grass. You can even search for sea glass. And, keep an eye out for the ram's that still exist here! Maine Maritime Museum runs trips here during the summer to make things even easier!
2. Waterfront Park, Bath
This spot is best for those who are curious! The park has views of Bath Iron Works as well as the Carlton Bridge. It also provides lots of views of boats traveling along the Kennebec. There are restrooms nearby as well.
3. Wolf Neck Woods, Freeport
This lovely spot is a great for wildlife lovers. It's the only place in the US (other than Alaska) that serves as a breeding ground for the Eider Duck. Come here its call while exploring the Casco Bay Trail. You'll be able to enjoy the ocean as well as the forest during a walk here. And, you'll have lots of opportunities for impromptu picnicking with the the picnic tables and grills located throughout.
4. The Popham Beach Ledges, Popham Beach
This special place is best for a romantic picnic. A picnic here on a warm day should plenty of time to enjoy the water and searching for shells. We hear sand dollars are a special find! But, make sure you time the tides right!
5. The Giant Stairs, Bailey Island
This area of ledges provides the perfect place to sit and enjoy the sounds of the sea. Bring lunch and plan on being mesmerized by the sights and sounds of salty island life in Maine.
6. Quoddy Head State Park, Lubec
Located on the easternmost point of land in the United States, Quoddy Head's 532 acres, and 4.5 miles of hiking trails - as well as the red-and-white striped lighthouse tower of West Quoddy Head Light - are a surreal place to picnic!
7. Reid State Park, Georgetown
If you're a Mainer, this one is no secret! It's another great destination for families, offering grills and picnic tables all year. Choose to base yourself at either Todd's Point
or Griffith Head and make sure to head to the lagoon if you've got small children.
8. Fort Popham, Phippsburg
This is a wonderful place to explore with kids. It's great for seal spotting and also offers some great fishing. Take some time to eat your lunch, then go searching for whirlpools where the ocean meets the Kennebec River.

9. Thomas Point Beach, Brunswick
This spot is perfect for families who want to turn their picnic into a daylong affair! There are playgrounds and calm seas for kids, as well as camping spots for those who like picnics that last a weekend.
10. The Eastern Promenade, Portland
This spot is an oasis at the edge of the city. Sit on the hill for sunset enjoying the kites, puppies and views of Casco Bay. If you're lucky, you won't even need to pack an actual picnic - food trucks can be found here in the summer months!
