The Natural Wonder in Louisiana is the Definition of a Hidden Gem

The LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens is an oasis with trails, gardens, wildlife, woodlands, wetlands, and so much more in Baton Rouge.

I am always amazed at the hidden gems one can find in a city, especially when it involves nature. Located in Baton Rouge is a hidden gem in Louisiana that maybe you haven't thought of visiting before. The LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens is an oasis in a city with trails, gardens, wildlife, woodlands, wetlands, and so much more. Spending time here is a must if you live in or visit Baton Rouge.

If you've ever wanted to feel like you've escaped Baton Rouge without ever leaving the city, consider spending an afternoon at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens. Here you will find peace out in nature while avoiding crowds.

With 440 acres to explore, you should plan on spending a few hours here. The Trees & Trails is a set of well-maintained hiking trails that, together, equal three miles. You'll find interpretive signage and outdoor classrooms with educational activities along the way. Needless to say, this is a great place to take the entire family for time outside to learn and explore nature.

You'll also find a boardwalk trail that treks through the Black Swamp as well as beautiful gardens full of plants and blooming flowers that are native to the Gulf Coast region. Among the gardens on the property are the Rose Garden, the Steele Burden Memorial Orangerie Garden with herbs and perennials, the Stone Camellia Collection (the largest private camellia collection in the country), and the Tropical Garden, among others.

But if I had to pick a garden to spend the most time, it would be the Memory Garden. This area of the botanic gardens is designed for peace and reflection with benches to sit and meditate or read a book if you prefer. This garden is also rented out for special events.

Not only is the property gorgeous but it's free to visit. Have you visited this hidden gem in Louisiana yet?
