If it's your mission to make this year the year that you explore all of Louisiana's 21 state parks, make Tickfaw State Park first on your list. Boasting approximately 1,200 acres of stunning scenery, it's easy to see why this beloved park is one of the most beautiful state parks in Louisiana.
You’ll find Tickfaw State Park nestled within Livingston Parish.
Its close proximity to both New Orleans and Baton Rouge makes it an ideal spot for city dwellers looking to surround themselves in a more natural setting for an afternoon.
The park features a nature center, a large fishing pond, playgrounds, and so much more.
There are even 14 cabins and several campsites if you wanted to extend your stay for a day or two.
There are nearly five miles of trails that wind throughout the park.
The trails are the best way to see the park, and all of them are less than three miles long, so you can mix and match to fit your schedule.
Tickfaw State Park is unique in that it features so many different ecosystems.
Nature lovers will be in paradise getting to wander through a cypress-tupelo swamp, a bottomland hardwood forest, a mixed pine/hardwood forest, and of course, the Tickfaw River.
No matter what time of year you visit, you'll be met with stunning scenery.
You'll fall in love with Louisiana all over again!
You can even bring your four-legged friend out for an adventure!
Just keep them leashed, as there are alligators in the area.
Of course, you could always bring your kayak and see the park from an entirely new perspective.
The Tickfaw River is truly a sight to see. If you don’t own a kayak, there are canoe rentals available from the park. Rentals are $25 per day and include paddles and life jackets.
Tickfaw State Park is open daily from sunrise to sunset.
Make your next weekend an outing to remember!
