Alabama and Florida might be swimming in beach accolades, but let's not forget about Louisiana. It's not just about bayous and jazz in the Pelican State – we've got some serious beach game too. Whether you're craving some sand-between-your-toes time in the peak of summer, or seeking a serene coastal getaway in the heart of winter, Louisiana's beaches are ready to impress. Diverse wildlife, plenty of sun-soaked spots for lounging, and a plateful of the freshest seafood, are just the start of the Louisiana beach experience. And we're not just talking bayou-side sand here, these beaches have waters so shimmering and views so breathtaking, they'd give any ocean a run for its money. So if you can't make the long drive to the Gulf Coast, worry not! We've gathered a list of some spectacular Louisiana beaches that will make you feel like you're right there on the oceanfront, any time of the year. Check out the beaches in Louisiana:
1. Lake Claiborne State Park
You'll feel like you’ve been whisked away to a tropical paradise over at Lake Claiborne State Park’s beach. White sand, the cool refreshing waters of the lake, and even some shade from the nearby trees. What more could you ask for? Lake Claiborne also has some beautiful nature trails, two of the best disc golf courses in the state, and so much more. If you want to make a weekend out of it, you can rent one of the cabins or bring your tent and spend a night sleeping under the stars.
2. Grand Isle
Ok, this one is actually oceanside! Travel down to the tip of the boot for some fantastic beach time at Grand Isle. Louisiana’s only inhabited barrier island has some beautiful beaches you can relax on, and you can even camp right on the beach if you want to make a weekend out of it! Falling asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing while you gaze up at the stars? Yes, please! This stunning destination in Louisiana is well worth the visit.
Editor's Note: As of 2023, Grand Isle State Park is still closed and under repair due to the damage caused by Hurricane Ida. There are several miles of public beaches to enjoy, and plenty of local restaurants to fuel you up in between catching a tan and riding the waves.
3. Holly Beach
This little beach over in Cameron Parish is perfect for shell collecting. It's also one of the rare beaches you might discover you have all to yourself! You can camp right on the beach here too, so pack your tent and make some memories! Check out Holly Beach in more detail.
4. Cypremort Point State Park
This wonderful man-made beach overlooks Vermilion Bay and is a popular place for anyone looking to do some sailing or water sports. 5. North Beach
You’ll find North Beach over in Lake Charles, and it’s quite popular once the weather begins to heat up. Beach volleyball is very popular here, so pull up some sand and root for your favorite team - or sign up to try a new sport.
6. Fontainebleau State Park
Come to enjoy the white sandy beaches overlooking Lake Pontchartrain at this fabulous state park in St. Tammany Parish. Visitors will also enjoy the nature trails, historic sugar mill ruins, playgrounds, and tons of wide open spaces here. Fontainebleau State Park is also another epic sunset spot, so stick around until dusk if you can.
7. South Toledo Bend State Park
Nestled on the south shores of the Toledo Bend Reservoir, this hidden gem of a beach is great for relaxing when you need a break from fishing. South Toledo Bend State Park is also one of the best areas to spot bald eagles, so keep your eyes to the skies, and you might catch one of these majestic creatures swooping in for a snack.
8. White Sands Lake Day Beach
This hidden gem is located in Franklinton, and it's the absolute perfect place for a family beach day. There are several water attractions to keep everyone entertained, including several inflatables toys and boat rentals, and the beach perfect for sinking your toes in and soaking up some sun. 9. Jimmie Davis State Park
This beautiful beach at Jimmie Davis State Park
overlooks the Caney Creek Reservoir, and visitors will have a splendid time swimming in the water, working on their tan, fishing, or just playing volleyball with friends.
