On the morning of Saturday, January 4th, set your alarm to wake up a little earlier than usual.
We know Saturdays are for sleeping in, but in this case, it’s worth it.
The Quadrantid meteor shower will be peak around 5 a.m., and it’ll be easy to spot.
Just look towards the Big Dipper Constellation. Unlike popular meteor showers like Perseids or Geminids where the peak time can last days, Quadrantid has a very narrow peak of only a couple of hours to see it.
Weather permitting, experts suggest stargazers could see more than 100 meteors per hour.
Sit back, relax, and watch the meteors dance across the sky!
The weather and cloud cover aren’t the only things that might block your view.
Although the moon will be approximately 71%, it’ll be opposite your field of vision, so you should still have a great view of the shower.
The best places to watch meteor showers are far from city lights.
The goal is to get as far away from light pollution as you can, so you’ll have the best view. Take a drive out to a rural area where you won’t be bothered with all those city lights. If you’re really interested, take a drive down to Grand Isle where you’ll be able to watch the shower over the Gulf of Mexico!
One of the distinguishing features of the Quadrantid meteor shower is the colors of the meteors.
These meteors take on a bright blue hue, making them even more magical! Set your alarms now, so you don’t forget to watch this incredible celestial show.
