Take A Paved Loop Trail Around This Louisiana Creek For A Peaceful Adventure

Perkins Road Community Park offers extreme sports facilities and peaceful hiking trails, making it a versatile destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Perkins Road Community Park is one of the many recreational parks that BREC oversees in the Greater Baton Rouge Area. The 52-acre park is a popular extreme sports park with BMX raceways, a rock climbing tower, and even a 333-meter velodrome, one of only 15 in the country! While the thrill of extreme sports is appealing to many, the park also has one of the most peaceful hikes in Louisiana, the Dawson Creek Trail.

From flips and tricks to peace and quiet, Perkins Road Community Park offers something for everyone.

The paved trails make it a popular spot for nature lovers on wheels or on foot.

There are actually a few different trails within the park and you can mix and match to fit your schedule.

The Dawson Creek Trail is a 2-mile paved loop trail that's perfect for a peaceful stroll.

BREC does an amazing job maintaining its parks, so you can expect this trail to be clean and clear of any debris.

This is particularly helpful if you're rollerblading, biking, or pushing a stroller! You wouldn't want to get your wheels caught in a tree branch.

It's the perfect place to take a walk and enjoy the sights and sounds of a more natural setting.

You'll be walking alongside the trail's namesake much of the way.

You might even spot some wildlife around Dawson Creek, like an egret on the search for a tasty snack or a turtle catching some rays along the bank.

You might even be inspired to tackle the other trails within the park!

If you've got the time, explore the entire trail system. It'll probably take you less than two hours and you'll stumble into even more incredible scenery. It might just become your new favorite hiking trail in Louisiana!
