Just a half-mile away from Morgan City’s Lake End Park, the Brownell Memorial Park and Campanile is a splendid hidden park in Louisiana that’s as scenic as it is serene.
The 9.5 acre park was gifted by Claire Horatio Brownell, who wanted to give the community a space to enjoy this picturesque little area of the Pelican State.
She wanted the park to be a nondenominational setting full of native plants where people could go to connect with God.
Depending on what time of year you visit, your pathway could be illuminated with dozens of colorful wildflowers.
There are plenty of native plants around the area, including palmettos, elephant ears, cattails, and ferns.
The park overlooks Lake Palourde, which is dotted with many lovely cypress trees to enjoy.
There are plenty of benches and picnic tables peppered around, so bring some snacks or a good book to enjoy.
One of the park's main attractions, and you can see it way before you ever enter the park, is the Carillon Tower.
Clocking in at 106 feet tall, the carillon tower houses 61 bronze bells that were all cast in Holland and vary in size/weight. The largest of the bells weighs in at 4,730 pounds!
It certainly adds a melodic atmosphere when they sound.
