If you love exploring new hiking trails, then you’ve got to lace up your boots and check out Tims Canyon Trail in Louisiana. This primitive trail is unlike any other trail in the state. Usually, Louisiana’s hiking trails will lead you through the wetlands, but not this one. This hidden trail will lead you through a very unique canyon!
The Kisatchie National Forest is full of unique hiking trails, and the Tims Canyon Trail is a perfect example.
It’s so well hidden that it's not even labeled on Google Maps. The trailhead is located right by the Ahtus Melder Campground, so if you plug that into your GPS, you’ll find it with ease.
The out-and-back trail clocks in at around 2.5 miles.
Since this is a primitive trail deep in the woods, make sure you’re wearing the proper footwear (boots or sneakers, no flip-flops).
This is one trail you'll want to plan ahead for. The canyon can get pretty muddy after a heavy rainfall!
And then it'll feel like you're walking through quicksand.
As you can see here, this isn't your average trail!
It's certainly not typical of Louisiana hiking trails, and that's what makes it so special. The red clay against the sandy trail really stands out.
It's an incredibly peaceful trail, too. You might just find that you have it all to yourself!
Just you and the symphony of sounds from the songbirds up above!
While you're in the area, you may want to tackle some other trails in the Kisatchie National Forest, and there are plenty to choose from! Also, Hayes E. Daze Ranch is right up the road, and this awesome spot lets you take to the trails on horseback!
