The Magnificent Overlook In Louisiana That’s Worthy Of A Little Adventure

Barataria Preserve in Louisiana offers family-friendly nature trails with stunning scenic views and abundant wildlife.

Louisiana is chock full of delightful nature trails that are perfect for a springtime outing. This particular nature preserve features multiple boardwalks and dirt trails that the whole family will love, and at the end of one of them lies a magnificent overlook that's absolutely worthy of an adventure. Barataria Preserve is located in Marrero and is part of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve.

When you arrive, stop off at the Visitor’s Center for to learn about the history of the area, the many different species of wildlife that call the region home, and to pick up a trail map.

All of the trails are fairly short in length, so you can mix and match to fit your schedule.

The Visitor Center Trail is only a quarter-mile long and is great for kids.

As you stroll through the preserve’s 23,000 acres, you’ll be mesmerized by the beauty of this untouched natural paradise.

The boardwalk trails really give you a glimpse into some of the prettiest scenery in Louisiana.

You'll be walking underneath canopies of Spanish moss swaying in the wind and the sounds of birds chirping.

Sounds like paradise, right?

Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife along the way.

It’s not uncommon to spot alligators, turtles, and snakes sunbathing just off the trails (and sometimes on the trails).

Barataria Preserve is also a bird watcher’s paradise.

The preserve is home to over 200 different species of birds, so have your camera ready!

At the end of the Bayou Coquille Trail, you'll come across a footbridge that will give you a stunning glimpse at the canal.

It's one of the most scenic spots along the trail and you won't want to miss it.

And just on the other side of the bridge is the Marsh Overlook.

There’s nothing but marshland as far as the eye can see.

On a clear day, you can see for miles!

There are also several benches around the area, so you can sit for a spell and just take in the view.
